North Spokane Corridor option

I don’t know why the southern end of the North Spokane Corridor has be completed all the way to Interstate 90 as a freeway all at once. Simply extend it from where it now ends at North Freya Road down through the old rail right-of-way and merge it straight into North Greene Street, near where it currently ends at North Market Street.

From that point, there is already a continuous existing four-lane highway all the way to I-90 under the street names North Greene St, North Freya Way and South Freya St/South Thor Street, where it ends at the linear Thor/Freya interchange.

This existing section between Market and I-90 could be cheaply and easily improved to allow for higher traffic flows, including widened parts and closing off many of the smaller inlet roads. The interchange could be improved and widened with truck only lanes. Such a design would create a long-term temporary option to a costly elevated freeway extension and interchange. Then, at some point far in the future, finish the freeway.
