City to endure payback

My wife and I enjoy the Spokane area immensely. This includes the scenery, the people, and the city. Spokane has done a wonderful job managing the downtown area. Riverfront Park is a jewel. There are plenty of places to dine and shop, and parking is a breeze thanks to the parking plaza in River Park Square. So, what could possibly go wrong?

The Spokane City Council’s recent mandate (sick leave) is something right out of politically correct and socialist Seattle. Instead of letting the market determine wage and benefit levels, council members have taken it upon themselves to interfere. The result will be price increases and, as consumers, we will review our options.

For instance, at eating establishments we usually tip 20 percent. This will now go to zero. Also, the city of Spokane Valley is close. Although we enjoy the ambiance of downtown, we will simply shop outside the Spokane city limits.

Entry level and easily obtained low compensation jobs are just that. If a total living wage job is a person’s objective, it will require sacrifice, training and possibly a willingness to relocate. The socialist Spokane City Council is about to get a lesson in economics.
