Dismissed Missouri dismissed QB Maty Mauk from the football program Thursday after a series of missteps that included three suspensions over the past four months. Coach Barry Odom said it was clear Mauk had violated team rules in recent weeks.

Hired Former Southern California assistant Justin Wilcox is poised to become the defensive coordinator at Wisconsin. Wilcox spent the last two seasons as USC’s defensive coordinator. He was fired after Clay Helton took over the Trojans’ head coaching job full time after the regular season ended.

Suspended Calgary Flames defenseman Dennis Wideman has been suspended indefinitely pending a hearing for checking and knocking down linesman Don Henderson on Wednesday night. Wideman will have a hearing Tuesday with the NHL’s department of hockey operations.

Agreed Pitcher Ivan Nova and the Yankees agreed to a $4.1 million, one-year contract and avoided salary arbitration. Nova can make $100,000 in performance bonuses.

Died Walt Williams, an outfielder who played for four major league teams in the 1960s and `70s and was best known for his nickname “No Neck,” has died. His wife, Ester, said her husband died of a heart attack Saturday. He was 72.

Sidelined American teen Nathan Chen will miss the Figure Sking World Championships after injuring his hip in an exhibition hours after winning the bronze medal at nationals. Chen is expected to return in eight to 10 weeks and make a full recovery.
