Woman dead in Spokane Valley stabbing, suspect arrested

A woman is dead and a man is in custody Friday night after Spokane Valley deputies were summoned to the 600 block of South Howe Road just before 7 p.m. for a domestic violence call.

When the deputies arrived, they found an unresponsive woman bleeding from stab wounds, according to Spokane Valley Deputy Mark Gregory.

The deputies, as well as Spokane Valley Fire Department medics, provided care, but the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

Deputy Jason Hunt and K9 Gunnar tracked the 38-year-old male suspect and found him nearby hiding under a trailer. The suspect, who has not been identified, was not cooperative and was bitten by the K9 before being arrested. He was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

Major crimes detectives are investigating. The woman will be identified after the medical examiner performs an autopsy.
