General Mills flour recall expanded after three more sick in Washington

SEATTLE – A third Washington state resident has been sickened in an outbreak of E. coli linked to a newly expanded recall of General Mills flour.

The Seattle Times repored that General Mills on Friday recalled an additional 20 million pounds of Gold Medal and other brands of flour. The Minneapolis-based company on June 1 recalled 10 million pounds of its Gold Medal.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said Friday that at least 42 people in 21 states, including Washington, have been sickened after eating the flour. Eleven people have been hospitalized. No deaths have been reported.
