Newsmakers: Duke broadcaster Bob Harris retiring after 41st season

Retired Longtime Duke radio broadcaster Bob Harris is retiring at the end of the men’s basketball season. When he calls his final basketball game this spring, Harris will have spent 41 seasons at Duke, making him the longest-tenured play-by-play man in Atlantic Coast Conference history.

Pled Former NFL WR Davone Bess has pleaded not guilty to a charge of unlawful flight from a law-enforcement vehicle near his suburban Phoenix home. According to charging documents, Bess was stopped by police in Gilbert on June 19 for driving without his headlights on. The documents say Bess pointed his finger like a gun at officers and then fled the scene and drove home.

Released The Detroit Lions released veteran LB Stephen Tulloch. Coach Jim Caldwell said in a statement that Tulloch has been “a consummate professional on and off the field.” In 2014, Tulloch missed most of the season after injuring his knee, but he was able to come back last season.

Reduced FIFA’s former secretary general Jerome Valcke has had his ban from football cut from 12 to 10 years on appeal. Valcke was fired by FIFA in January over World Cup ticketing and broadcast rights scandal, plus expenses abuses. Within weeks, he was banned by FIFA’s ethics committee for several charges of misconduct. FIFA said Tuesday its appeals committee ruled that ethics judges were too severe with Valcke over the 2018-2022 World Cup TV rights case.

Announced UEFA says it is cute but not safe for players’ children to join in post-match celebrations at the European Championship. The scenes of toddlers in full Wales kit joining their dads on the pitch after another Euro 2016 win has added to the surprise semifinalist’s feel-good story. However, UEFA has asked for no more on-field family scenes when Wales plays Portugal in Lyon on Wednesday.

World Cup ticket prices have broken the $1,000 barrier for the first time. FIFA said the top price for the 2018 final in Moscow will be $1,100, up from $990 for the 2014 final in Rio de Janeiro. Other tickets for the final will cost $710 and $455, with additional category 4 tickets – which are sold exclusively to Russian residents – costing 7,040 rubles (currently $110).

Reported Finnish police have released two members of Cuba’s national men’s volleyball team but are holding six others on suspicion of aggravated rape, an investigator said Monday. Police will request that a regional court order the six men to be remanded in custody to continue the investigation before any possible charges, said Joni Lansipuro, the Central Finland Police Department officer in charge of the investigation.
