Coeur d’Alene relaxes drug policy

Associated Press

The city of Coeur d’Alene is drastically reducing its drug testing policies for potential new hires.

The Coeur d’Alene Press reported that the northern Idaho city decided earlier this week that it no longer needed across-the-board screening. However, certain positions will still require drug testing, particularly for positions requiring a commercial driver’s license.

The policy has been in place since 1995.

Human Resources Director Melissa Tosi says that the city has had very few potential hires fail a drug test over the years.

Coeur d’Alene is just 20 miles away from Washington’s state border, where recreational marijuana was recently legalized.
