Shadow women win inaugural Northwest Premier League title
The Spokane Shadow women’s team claimed the inaugural Northwest Premier League title on Saturday, defeating the Seattle Stars 4-0 at Starfire Complex in Tukwila, Washington.
Needing just two points to lock up the championship, the Shadow dominated play behind the efforts of Marissa Mykines, who played a role in all four goals. She found Tiara Pittman-Thomas, who deftly finished for the opener. Mykines’ shot in the 56th was saved, allowing Sarah Cox to put away the rebound. Ten minutes later she tallied herself on a great individual effort, beating two defenders and scoring from the top of the arc. A well-played low cross created the final goal when a defender deflected it into her own goal.
Later in the evening, the Shadow men kept themselves in the Evergreen Premier League title race with an early goal in a 1-0 victory over Seattle. Fernando Alvarez tapped in a ball from Alex McNeill 13 minutes in.
The Shadow men play at Bellingham United at 3 p.m. Sunday. The Shadow women play Fuerza FC at 5 p.m. in Marysville, Washington.
