The Dirt: Gonzaga building space for alumni services

By Treva Lind Correspondent

A $950,000 Gonzaga University project will create central space along Hamilton Street for alumni and development services.

Vandervert Construction started an interior remodel this month, in the east side of the Boone Avenue Retail Center at 1101 N. Hamilton St., to convert about 21,000 square feet of space previously used for dining services into a hub for Gonzaga’s Advancement Division.

Joe Poss, vice president for university advancement, said about 60 employees will move to the facility in late fall or early winter. Employees are now scattered on campus, in Huetter Mansion and College Hall. The division handles alumni, student and community relations and develops fundraising, networking, internship and mentoring efforts, Poss said.

The new space is designed to have open work spaces for collaboration, small gathering areas, meeting rooms and offices. Built in 2013, the BARC held temporary dining facilities until the university could complete the Hemmingson Center. The four-level structure also houses the Zag Shop, printing and mail services, and a central parking garage.
