A change in Congress

Reflecting on the House Republicans’ fear of talking about assault-style weapons and gun violence, let alone voting on it, I’m reminded of the film adaptation of the musical “1776.”

One of my favorite lines is, “In all my years, I’ve never seen, heard nor smelled an issue that was so dangerous it couldn’t be talked about. Hell, yes. I’m for debating anything. Rhode Island says Yea!” (Stephen Hopkins, delegate from Rhode Island, played by Roy Poole)

Congresswoman Cathy McMorris Rodgers’s “leadership” role as chair of the House Republican Conference puts the “nothing” in “Do Nothing Congress.” No debate, let alone any action. During the gun violence floor protest, our congresswoman quietly went on her Fourth of July vacation two days early!

To my fellow voters in Washington’s 5th Congressional District, there’s a better option for everyone’s liking. Let’s have a representative who isn’t wearing her party’s ball-and-chain by serving in her current role.

Voters will find something for everyone on the primary ballot: Dave Wilson (Independent), Krystol McGee (Libertarian), Joe Pakootas (Democratic) and Tom Horne (Republican).

Join me in choosing a working representative for Congress.
