Suspect in Pullman motel room arson arrested

An arson fire damaged the Pullman American Travel Inn on July 19, 2016 (Pullman Fire Department)

The Washington State Patrol arrested a Spokane man Wednesday who was wanted for allegedly setting fire to his Pullman motel room early Tuesday morning.

William J. Young II, 39, was located walking on State Route 195 near Rosalia around noon Wednesday, according to the Pullman Police Department. An arrest warrant for Young had been issued Tuesday after fire investigators said they believed Young deliberately set fire to the room he was sharing with a co-worker.

Young and his co-worker were part of a crew from a Spokane roofing company completing a roofing job at an apartment complex in Pullman.

The fire at the American Travel Inn was reported around 4:45 a.m. Tuesday and caused an estimated $80,000 to $100,000 in damage.
