10 Under $10: Inexpensive fun in the Inland Northwest

1. Julia Keefe 7 p.m. Friday, Nodland Cellars Tasting Room, 926 W. Sprague Ave., Suite 101. Spokane-based jazz vocalist, well known for her Mildred Bailey show, brings her lovely voice to Spokane’s newest jazz bar. (509) 927-7770. Admission: $5

2. The Round #20 8 p.m. Friday, The Bartlett, 228 W. Sprague Ave. Songwriters, slam poets and visual artists will share the stage and create while the audience sits only a few feet away. Featuring Joel Ansett, Thom Caraway and more. (509) 747-2174. Admission: $8 advance; $10 day of show

3. Cutest Baby Animals Day 1 p.m. Saturday, Northwest Museum of Arts and Culture, 2316 W. First Ave. Petting puppies and kittens, and possibly a few other animal babies, courtesy of Spokane County Regional Animal Protection Service. Many of these animals will be available for adoption. Spokane artist Megan Perkins will teach some basic techniques to sketching live animals. There will also be a cutest baby animal contest. The owner of the winning animal will receive a one-year family museum membership, and every owner of an animal registered in the contest will receive a $2-off coupon to visit the museum’s exhibition galleries. 4. Hillfolk Noir 7:30 p.m. Thursday, The Big Dipper, 171 S. Washington St. The Boise-based trio, which bills itself on Facebook as “a trio of neo-traditionalists playing traditional music on traditional instruments for nontraditional times,” head north. No less than John Doe of X once said of the band, “If John Steinbeck owned a speakeasy, Hillfolk Noir would be the house band.” With help from Moses Willey. (509) 863-8098. 5. Jammin’ by the Dam Friday and Saturday, doors at 5 p.m.; music begins at 6 p.m., Red Lion Hotel at the Park, 303 W. North River Drive. Experience the region’s best bands while enjoying dinner on the patio at The Dam Bar and Grill or sipping cocktails in a front row seat by the stage.
