North side home declared a nuisance, boarded up

The Spokane Police Department shut down a North Spokane home recently after it was declared a chronic nuisance by a judge.

Police attempted to work with the owner of the home at 4519 N. Hawthorne but did not get any results, according to a police department news release. Officers have responded to the home 54 times in the past year for drug activity, assaults, vehicle theft, prostitution and trafficking in stolen property.

Police, with assistance from neighborhood residents, went to court to have the home declared a nuisance and evict all the residents. The house, located a block from a convent, has been boarded up and if anyone goes into the home they will be arrested for trespassing, the news release said.
