7-year-old girl hit by SUV in Mead, airlifted to hospital

A 7-year-old girl crossing the street in a Mead neighborhood was struck by an SUV and airlifted to a hospital with serious injuries Tuesday morning.

Spokane County Sheriff’s Deputy Mark Gregory said the girl stepped in front of the mid-size SUV as it traveled east near the intersection of East Pine Glen Road and North Yale Road. Her injuries appeared to be life-threatening.

Crash investigators have just arrived on scene, but nothing immediately suggests the driver was impaired or driving recklessly, Gregory said. The girl’s family lives in the area.
