Pedestrian hurt badly after apparently falling off semi

From staff reports

A pedestrian was hospitalized early Thursday in downtown Spokane, but early reports that a semi hit the man appear to be inaccurate, the Spokane Police Department said.

The incident took place at about 1:30 a.m. near the intersection of West Main Avenue and North Browne Street. Police arrived several minutes later, found the pedestrian lying in the road and began administering first aid, police said in a news release.

The driver of the semi told police that he had stopped to allow the pedestrian to cross the street, then realized that the man had climbed onto the cab of his truck. The man was reportedly injured when he fell off the cab.

Evidence at the scene appears to corroborate the driver’s statement, police said, but the incident is still under investigation.

The pedestrian was taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Police are asking anyone who witnessed the collision to call Crime Check at 509-456-2233.
