Loyd, Storm hold on for 90-88 win over Fever

INDIANAPOLIS – Jewell Loyd scored 20 points, including two free throws with 2.4 seconds to play, and the Seattle Storm beat the Indiana Fever 90-88 on Sunday night.

Crystal Langhorne added 17 points, Sue Bird had 16, and Jenna O’Hea scored 10 for the Storm (4-6). Rookie Breanna Stewart had seven points, five rebounds, six assists and three blocked shots.

Loyd hit a jumper that gave Seattle an 88-87 lead with 23 seconds to play. After Shenise Johnson made the first and missed the second of two free throws on the other end, Loyd grabbed the rebound, dribbled downcourt and drew a foul setting up her winning foul shots.

Seattle, ranked ninth in the AP WNBA Power Poll, led by as many as 17 in the first half. O’Hea’s 3-pointer with 3:32 remaining gave the Storm an 82-71 advantage, but Tamika Catchings scored eight during a 16-4 run that gave the Fever its first lead, 87-86, since the opening minutes.

Catchings scored 15 of her 27 points in the fourth quarter.

Briann January added 15 points and Johnson scored 13 for sixth-ranked Indiana (4-6).
