A bicyclist was struck and killed by a pickup truck on Wednesday afternoon in north Spokane.

The truck was traveling east on Wellesley Avenue at about 1 p.m. when it hit the bicyclist near Whitehouse Street. Witnesses told police that the bicyclist, a woman, fell in front of the truck, Cpl. Ben Green said.

Police and Spokane Fire Department medics were on the scene in minutes, Green said.

“It was pretty obvious that the cyclist was deceased,” he said.

The driver of the truck stopped immediately and did not appear to be under the influence, Green said. He has not been charged, and the collision is still under investigation.

Police were still trying to notify the woman’s next of kin Wednesday evening. The woman’s identity will be released by the medical examiner after an autopsy.
