Officials: Two more Zika virus cases found in King County

Associated Press

SEATTLE – Health officials have confirmed two more cases of Zika virus in King County. That brings the total to four in the county and eight in Washington.

Public Health Seattle & King County said Wednesday the new cases involved a woman in her 30s who had traveled to Honduras and a woman in her 40s who had visited Haiti. Both women have recovered and neither is pregnant.

Officials say the King County cases do not pose a risk to the public. The mosquitoes that transmit Zika aren’t found in the Pacific Northwest, so health officials don’t expect the virus to spread.

Officials say the number of cases likely will increase with ongoing widespread outbreaks in the Americas and the Caribbean including Puerto Rico.
