Inslee signs away base

With his decision to allow a tribe to build another casino in Airway Heights, Gov. Inslee has signed Fairchild’s death warrant. There will be no new tankers with all the additional personnel needed to operate and maintain them. There will be no increase in the already substantial contribution the base and its personnel and dependents make to the Spokane economy.

As a matter of fact, the base’s contribution will disappear. With the loss of the BX (Base Exchange), commissary and pharmacy, my wife and I, as retirees, will have less disposable income to spend in Spokane stores and restaurants. In addition, the gambling pie will be sliced in two insuring mediocrity for both casinos.
