Oregon Tech offers free tuition to Umpqua shooting survivors

PORTLAND, Ore. – The Oregon Institute of Technology will be waiving tuition for any Umpqua Community College student who was in the building where a gunman killed 10 people, including himself, and injured nine others.

The Oregonian reported that starting this fall Oregon Tech will offer free tuition to any Umpqua Community College student who was in one of four classes in Snyder Hall during the Oct. 1 shooting in Roseburg.

Oregon Institute of Technology President Chris Maples said 85 students were eligible for the scholarship. Maples said the scholarship would be available to any qualified survivors who apply by January 2020 and enroll by 2021.
