Police investigate body found Sunday in Spokane River

Spokane Police Major Crimes detectives are investigating a body found Sunday morning in the Spokane River south of Mission Park.

No details were released on the person’s identity or the cause of death.

Two young girls were exploring the area while attending the Summer Solstice swim meet at Witter Pool. They spotted what appeared to be a body a few feet from the river bank and contacted an adult.

Police officers and the Spokane Fire Department responded at 11:30 a.m. The Spokane County Sheriff’s Office Dive Team recovered the body.

The Spokane County Medical Examiner’s Office will release the identity of the deceased person and the manner of death when determined.
