Man arrested for shooting houses in Coeur d’Alene

From staff reports

A Coeur d’Alene man was arrested early Tuesday morning for allegedly shooting into a subdivision on the city’s northwest end, striking two occupied houses and nearly hitting one resident.

Travis Gregory Duff, 28, who lives in the Hawks Nest subdivision, admitted to firing three rifle rounds in the direction of the Coeur d’Alene Place subdivision, police said. Duff was arrested and charged with two felony counts of unlawful discharge of a firearm into an occupied dwelling.

Detectives aren’t sure why he fired the rounds, but initial information indicates Duff was not targeting the residences, police said.

Officers responded to the area around 12:30 a.m. and confirmed two homes had been damaged by gunfire. They found Duff holding a handgun behind his home on the west side of Atlas Road. Officers told him drop the gun, and he did, but when Duff would not move away from the gun, officers used a Taser on him and took him into custody.

Detectives recovered Duff’s rifle.
