Box office: ‘Finding Dory’ breaks record for opening of animated film

LOS ANGELES – “Finding Dory” is officially the record holder for top animated opening of all time in North American theaters, unseating “Shrek The Third.”

It’s final weekend tally of $135.1 million released Monday was a home run for Disney and Pixar, even though it was just a gill shy of Sunday’s initial estimate of $136.2 million.

Meanwhile, the buddy action comedy “Central Intelligence,” starring Kevin Hart and Dwayne Johnson, came in slightly above initial estimates with a strong $35.5 million debut weekend.

“The Conjuring,” “Now You See Me 2” and “Warcraft,” all of which opened last weekend, rounded out the top five.
