Spokane man gets five years in prison for animal cruelty after having sex with dogs

A man has been sentenced to five years in prison for animal cruelty after repeatedly having sex with animals, including dogs and a horse.

Travis A. Joy, 46, pleaded guilty to six counts of first-degree animal cruelty with a sexual motivation and one count of harassment, which came after he threatened to kill the people he thought reported him to police.

A former roommate found videos of Joy having sex with three dogs and a horse after Joy moved out of a house in Elk, Washington. Tattoos visible in the videos match the tattoos Joy has on his arms, according to court documents.

Two dogs owned by Joy were turned over to Spokane County Regional Animal Protection Services when he was arrested in 2015.

Joy’s criminal history includes convictions for domestic violence assault, violation of a protection order and bank robbery. He’ll be required to register as a sex offender, court records say.
