Black bear cub makes brief escape at Ohio zoo before capture
A bear cub scaled a 12-foot fence in its new enclosure at an Ohio zoo and escaped for about 15 minutes before being sedated.
The Columbus Zoo was put on lockdown Saturday for a few minutes until workers could contain Joan, a 7-month-old black cub, said zoo spokeswoman Patty Peters.
Two cubs had been abandoned in the wild and arrived at the zoo just a few months ago. The one named after rocker Joan Jett managed to evade a “hot wire,” Peters said.
The bears’ enclosure was recently renovated. It will need modifications for the cubs, she said.
