Cable customers targeted by scam

Cable One reports that a phishing scam targeting its customers is making the rounds and urges people not to fall for the email.

Customers have been receiving emails claiming that their most recent payment was declined. The email asks them to update their payment information to avoid being delinquent, according to the Better Business Bureau. The emails are fake and Cable One is not sending them.

Fake emails sometimes have spelling errors or are poorly worded. Sometimes the URL that customers are directed to is slightly different than the real company’s website. Cable One said it never sends out emails asking for personal information.

Anyone who has received one of the fake emails can report it to the Better Business Bureau at (509) 455-4200 or at www.bbb.org.
