Eugene takes final game of series with Indians

EUGENE – The Spokane Indians were no match for Jesus Castillo on Monday night.

Castillo (1-1) allowed just one hit in five shutout innings and struck out 11 as the South Division-leading Eugene Emeralds (8-3) rolled to an 8-2 victory over the Indians (4-7) in Northwest League play.

Matt Rose drove in three runs for the Emeralds, including two with an eighth-inning home run, and Eugene won the last four games of the five-game series.

Three errors by the Indians led to three unearned runs for Eugene.

Spokane trailed 5-0 before Seth Spivey drilled a solo home run in the top of the seventh. The Indians, who failed to homer in their first nine games, now have four-baggers in back-to-back contests.

Spokane returns home to host the Everett AquaSox tonight at 6:30 at Avista Stadium.
