Box office: ‘Finding Dory’ swamps ‘Independence Day’

NEW YORK – “Finding Dory” topped the weekend North American box office for the second straight week, drowning the underperforming “Independence Day: Resurgence.”

According to final studio figures Monday, “Finding Dory” took in nearly $73 million over the weekend, bringing its two-week domestic haul to $286.3 million. That easily outdid the debut of “Resurgence.” The Will Smith-less sequel to the 1996 blockbuster opened poorly with $41 million.
