Police: 2-year-old beaten at motel

Associated Press

VANCOUVER, Wash. – A toddler is in critical condition after authorities said she was severely beaten by a man at a Vancouver motel.

The Clark County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement that the 2-year-old was injured by a man at the Sunnyside Motel around 9 p.m. Tuesday. The child’s relationship to the man was unknown.

Arriving deputies found the man kicking the child. Authorities said a resident at the hotel tried to intervene using a baseball bat. Deputies used a Taser to subdue the suspect.

The injured girl was taken to Legacy Emanuel Medical Center in Portland, where she was listed in critical condition. The suspect, a 32-year-old man, was taken to a local hospital with nonlife-threatening injuries. After treatment he was booked into jail on an attempted murder charge.

No charges were expected for the resident who used the baseball bat on the suspect.
