Focus on people, not guns

Kudos to Mike Hashimoto (“No-fly list unsuitable for barring guns sales,” June 19). I read Kathleen Parker’s column and turned the page. Mike’s article was like a breath of fresh air. Like most writers, Kathleen is attacking the effect and not the cause.

I grew up in the mountains in Oregon during World War II and everyone had guns. Yet you never heard of anyone going “postal” or shooting up a theater. It’s the people who have changed. We need to concentrate on finding what has changed the way people think and act.

The only way to stop the killing by taking the guns would be to take away all guns, and that is impossible.
