Man arrested after brawling with police

A Spokane police officer arrested a man Thursday following a fight in Adam & Eve, an adult novelty store.

The officer spotted Dominic D.L. Johnson driving a car along the 3600 block of North Division Street around noon Thursday and noticed he was trying to hide his face, according to court documents.

The officer circled around the block to check on Johnson and spotted him walking into the store. The officer wrote in court documents that when he confronted Johnson – whom he suspected of driving under the influence because Johnson was sweating profusely, breathing heavily and had dilated eyes – a fight started.

Prosecutors described it as a mixed martial arts attack on the officer.

Johnson is accused of punching the officer several times in the face and kicking him repeatedly in the shins, according to court documents. The officer reported he tried shocking Johnson twice with a Taser and hitting him once with a baton.

A store employee told other officers who arrived it appeared Johnson tried to bite the officer, according to court documents.

Johnson had to be tackled and held down by several officers before he could be arrested, according to court documents.

Johnson’s girlfriend, Coleen Ketchum, tried to interfere and also was arrested, according to court records.

Johnson also has pending charges of obstructing a law enforcement officer and resisting arrest for a separate incident in Spokane Valley earlier this year.
