Wind downs trees, cuts power in Western Washington

Associated Press

SEATTLE – A strong weather system brought rain and gusty winds to Washington state that knocked out power, blew over trees and flooded roadways.

The U.S. Coast Guard reported on Twitter that boat crews rescued three people after high winds washed a fishing boat onto the rocks near Bellingham.

Brownsville Highway in Kitsap County was closed Thursday morning because of water over the road. Downed trees also forced the closure of other roads throughout western Washington.

Downed trees and power lines closed roads in Snohomish County. The Public Utility District was working to restore power for the City of Marysville and other parts of Snohomish County.

Crews with Seattle City Light were also working to restore power in several locations. It reported that 5,600 customers were without power in the Capitol Hill, Montlake area.

Puget Sound Energy said downed trees have caused outages throughout the region.

KOMO-TV reports that power lines fell on a house in Lynnwood and sparked a fire.

The Sounder Northline Trains No. 1703 and No. 1705 out of Everett were held due to trees across the tracks.

The Chimacum School District closed on Thursday due to transportation problems. West Sound private and charter schools were on a two-hour delay or were closed.
