Police arrest injury hit-and-run suspect

A speeding SUV driver smashed into a pickup truck Sunday, sending two people to the hospital, and then fled before crashing into antique pickup truck parked in front of Cassano’s Market, along East Mission Avenue.

Spokane police arrested 31-year-old Ricky E. Grubb on suspicion of vehicular assault and hit-and-run.

Police initially gave chase to a black GMC Yukon in the area of Mission and Napa, then gave up pursuit.

Grubb steered the SUV down an alley and hit the pickup, sending it crashing into another car in the parking lot of Cassano’s Market, according to police.

Rather than stop to help, police said, Grubb drove away and hit the a 1951 International truck.

Police in the area arrived and arrested Grubb. A passenger in Grubb’s Yukon was injured and taken to the hospital.

Carl Naccarato, the owner of Cassano’s said the pickup, which isn’t driven, was damaged but not totaled.

“It’s a miracle. That thing is built like a tank,” Naccarato said. “Any other thing would have absolutely disappeared.”
