New Red Lion opens atop Sunset Hill

Treva Lind correspondent

After a nine-month renovation, the former Spokane House Hotel atop Sunset Hill has opened as Red Lion Inn and Suites Spokane.

The newly branded hotel, at 4301 W. Sunset Blvd., has 89 updated rooms as well as fitness and business centers following a multimillion-dollar refurbishing project. It’s located 4 miles from Spokane International Airport with views of downtown Spokane.

Opening in 1953, the historic property then called Desert Caravan Inn was a go-to spot in Spokane and listed as “one of the 10 best motels in America,” according to Spokesman-Review archives. It later changed hands several times and fell into disrepair.

“We have had lots of interest in this hotel with locals dropping by to take a look at the improvements,” said Pintu Bath, an owner of the hotel as a franchisee of Red Lion Hotels Corp. Bath also owns the Red Lion Hotel Seattle-Renton under franchise agreement.

The Sunset Boulevard site joins two longtime Spokane properties in the chain: Red Lion River Inn Spokane, 700 N. Division St., and Red Lion Hotel at the Park, at 303 W. North River Drive.

A Mod Pizza, Wells Fargo Bank branch and Aspen Dental are planned tenants for a new 10,000-square-foot retail structure in north Spokane.

Heritage North LLC is building the nearly $1 million multitenant structure at 9405 N. Newport Highway. It replaces two retail buildings being demolished at the corner of Holland Avenue.

Baker Construction & Development Inc., of Spokane, is the contractor for the project that’s expected to be finished in September.

New owners for apartment building

Spokane-based Namaste NW LLC, with owners Donald and Susan Chilson, has bought a 10-unit apartment building in northwest Spokane.

The 4,708-square-foot property, located at 1618 N. Lincoln St., sold for $362,000.

James Black III, of Black Commercial, assisted with the transaction.

This is Sola Salon’s second outlet, at 802 E. 29th Ave. Its first location is at Riverstone in Coeur d’Alene.

Colin Conway and Chad Carper, both of Kiemle & Hagood, represented Manito Center LLC. Jeff McGougan, of NAI Black, assisted the tenant.
