Was born on June 6, 1926 in Chinook, Montana, one of eight children of John and Nettie (Westover) Clason.

After he spent his first two years in Montana, his family moved to Hot Springs, South Dakota, where Richard grew up and attended school.

After joining the Navy in 1943, he served in the Pacific as a signalman until 1949.

On November 27, 1948 he married Lillian Schierer and settled first in Santa Monica, then in Venice and in Sepulveda, California, and finally in Spokane, Washington.

Richard and Lillian raised two children, their sons Kenneth Richard (born 1950) and Christopher Robert (born 1952).

Richard joined the Beverly Hills Police Department in 1956 and earned the rank of Chief Investigation Officer, serving with distinction until his retirement in 1990.

He was married to Lillian for 61 years, until her passing in August of 2010.

Richard passed away on March 21, 2016, after a brief illness.

He is survived by his sons Kenneth and his wife Erin, and Christopher and his wife Stacey Hahn, and their families.
