Makayla Lefever pitched a one-hit shutout for a 1-0 Whitworth victory as the Pirates split a Northwest Conference makeup doubleheader at Willamette.

The gem came after Lefever (11-1) had suffered her first loss of the season, pitching in relief as the Bearcats pulled out a 4-3 win in nine innings in the opener.

In her ninth complete game, Lefever threw just 74 pitching, striking out two and walking one. Alyssa Hall opened the inning with an infield single, stole second, was sacrificed to third and scored on an infield out.

In the ninth inning of the opener, Willamette (11-6, 7-5) got a single to open the inning then saw three straight Bearcats hit by pitches to force in the winning run. Whitworth had overcome a 3-0 deficit to force extra innings.
