LinkedIn stops calling Bend “in Eugene” after complaints

BEND, Ore. – Professionals in Bend no longer have to worry about doppelgangers in Eugene as the social networking website LinkedIn has fixed a glitch that classified Bend as “in the Eugene, Oregon Area.”

The Bulletin reported that engineers at the Mountain View, California-based company fixed the issue on Friday. Officials say it’s unclear why Bend was mislabeled in search results but that it isn’t just Bend’s problem.

Officials say other small, isolated cities also are affected by the issue, such as Jackson, Wyoming, which is labeled under the Pocatello, Idaho, area in search results.

LinkedIn members can edit their profiles to state whatever location they want, and that location will appear once a user clicks onto the profile.
