Lake Stevens man believed to have drowned at Palouse Falls

From staff reports

The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office identified the man who is believed to have drowned at Palouse Falls Sunday as 22-year-old James A. Hopkins of Lake Stevens, Washington.

Hopkins and two others were swimming near the base of the falls at about 5:20 p.m. when they “started having trouble,” a news release said. Bystanders helped rescue two of the group but Hopkins couldn’t be located by emergency responders.

A dive team still hasn’t been able to find his body, but the search has been suspended because of dangerous water below the falls, the news release said.
