Boston College will retire Pete Frates’ No. 3 at ALS Awareness Game

BOSTON – Boston College will retire uniform number of former captain Pete Frates at its fifth annual ALS Awareness Game on Saturday.

Frates’ No. 3 jersey will join the No. 13 worn by Eddie Pellagrini, a major league infielder who was the winningest coach in Boston College history.

Since being diagnosed with Lou Gehrig’s Disease at the age of 27, Frates has helped to raise hundreds of millions of dollars by popularizing the ice bucket challenge.

Frates played outfield for Boston College from 2004-07 and was a captain his senior year.
