College softball: First-place North Idaho sweeps with late rallies
An 11-run sixth inning Friday allowed North Idaho to cap a doubleheader sweep with a 15-10 victory over Yakima Valley in Northwest Athletic Conference softball play at Lake City High.
The Cardinals won the opener 9-7 on Nikki Miller’s no-out, two run homer in the eighth.
Miller also homered and had five RBIs in the second game. The Cardinals’ Abby Howard homered twice and drove in five runs.
NIC (29-9, 22-4) is closing in on the East Region title with three doubleheaders remaining. The Cardinals are riding an 11-game winning streak.
The Yaks dropped to 5-33, 3-23.
Maddie Nacarrato doubled home Courtney Adams in the bottom of the sixth and Michele Strauss struck out six as Community Colleges of Spokane (26-14, 17-9 NWAC) defeated Wenatchee Valley 4-3 to split a doubleheader at Spokane Falls CC.
The Knights (20-15, 15-11) won the opener 7-2 behind Karly Malcolm’s six-hitter. Josie Scholtz went 2 for 4 for the Sasquatch.
