Charles died peacefully in Spokane, WA on May 3, 2016 from Multiple System Atrophy (MSA).

Charlie (also known as Russ) was born June 26, 1944 in Boston, MA to Dr. Charles and Elizabeth Cavanagh.
Russ spent most of his life in Spokane and graduated from Lewis and Clark in ‘62.

He served in the Marine Corps earning Marine of the Year in 1968.

He later graduated from Deaconess School of Nursing and practiced as a Nurse Anesthetist before spending the last 28 years with Lancer Ltd. until his retirement last June.

Russ was an active runner and participated in many Bloomsday runs (including the first) and three marathons and has the t-shirts to prove it!

He enjoyed his time at the Liberty Lake family home having made special friendships with his Windsong neighbors and life-long friends Truman and Susan Bradley.

He loved happy hours cruising the lake, cooking, working in his garden, and feeding the deer.

He was especially proud of his 11 ingredient Bloody Mary.
Russ is preceded in death by his parents, Dr. Charles Russell Cavanagh III, mother Elizabeth (Bump) Cavanagh and sister Colleen Alice Donaldson.

Russ is survived by his best friend and partner Karen McDermott, siblings Elizabeth Pellanda (Manning), Kathleen Cavanagh (Van Schilling), Robert Cavanagh (Sharon), Joseph Cavanagh (Gloria) and Susan Mattox (Rob), six nieces and two nephews.

A memorial service will be held at St. Augustine Catholic Church Monday, May 9 at 11:00am.

Inurnment immediately to follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery.
