College track and field: Washington’s Katie Knight wins women’s 10,000 at Pac-12 Championships

Washington junior Katie Knight (North Central High) won her first Pac-12 Conference Championships title Saturday when she cruised to a 20-second victory in the women’s 10,000 meters at Husky Track in Seattle.

Knight finished in 33 minutes, 20.02 seconds to easily outdistance Oregon’s Molly Grabill (33:40.38). Washington State’s CharLee Linton (34:15.91) was seventh.

Washington State piled up points in the women’s high jump, led by Kiana Davis’ runner-up finish. Davis equaled her season-best jump of 5 feet, 8 3/4 inches, the same height as the winner, Arizona’s Lisanne Hagens, who won on fewer misses.

Liz Harper (5-7 1/4) placed fourth and Lateah Holmes (5-5 1/4) tied for sixth for the Cougars.

WSU’s Kelsie Taylor placed fourth in the women’s javelin at 144-11.

Oregon, with 57 points, leads the women’s standings after seven events. WSU (28) is fifth.

The host Huskies (61) lead the men’s side by four points over Oregon. WSU has 14 points.

Sophomore Jeremy VanAssche won the men’s 100 to highlight Eastern Washington’s efforts during the final day of the Big Sky Conference Championships in Greeley, Colorado.

VanAssche ran 10.35, just .04 off the school record he set earlier this year.

EWU senior Kaytlyn Coleman followed up Friday’s title in the women’s hammer throw with a second-place finish in the shot put (48-4 3/4). The two finishes earned her the event’s Most Outstanding Performer Award.

EWU’s women dominated the pole vault as Erin Clark placed second and Anadae Clark third. Both cleared 12-9 1/2, which ranks seventh in school history.

Eastern’s women placed a school-best third with 94.5 points. The Eagles men were ninth with 47. Northern Arizona swept both titles.
