School sports important

High school sports has lately been portrayed as “fluff” or unnecessary for students. As a high school athlete myself, I simply do not agree.

It may not be the most important thing going on in high school, but it’s a close second behind education. Sports lets kids have an outlet and feel like they belong, whether they have good grades and social skills or not.

If funding for sports were cut off or if sports were simply taken away from schools, the effects would be unimaginable. Number of graduates, attendance and grades would all fall dramatically. The feeling sports gives many teens is irreplaceable and is something most can’t live without. It’s even the reason many come to school.

So, as I speak for most student athletes out there, I say we continue to boost funding for high school sports and simultaneously continue to support our fellow programs.
