Vandals just miss shot at national tourney berth

The Idaho Vandals men’s golf team just missed a berth in the NCAA National Championship Tournament on Wednesday thanks to a red-hot finish by the Baylor Bears at the Kohler Regional in Kohler, Wisconsin.

The Vandals shot a 6-under-par 282 in the final round for an 864 total, but Baylor blistered the course with a 14-under 274 to finish in a fourth-place tie with Florida State at 858 for the final two berths to nationals.

Illinois won the team title with an 11-under 853, four strokes in front of Florida and Arkansas.

Idaho sophomore Daniel Sutton finished in a five-way tie for fifth place after an even-par 72 in the final round for a 3-under 213 total. Ohio State’s Tee-k Kelly (209) was the medalist.

Gonzaga senior Sean Walsh ended his career by tying for 17th place with a 216 total after a 2-over 74 in the final round of the Tucson Regional in Marana, Arizona.

Stanford, led by the 1-2 finish of Franklin Huang (204) and Maverick McNealy (206), won the team title by 14 strokes.
