Prep softball: Lakeside edges Deer Park for district title

COLVILLE – Peyton Thomas doubled twice and had three runs batted in Friday as Lakeside held off Deer Park 11-10 in the championship game of the District 7 1A softball tournament.

Hailey Lesser added three hits, including a triple, for the Eagles (20-2), who earned the top seed to next weekend’s State 1A tournament at Columbia Playfields in Richland.

Payton Erickson, Kylie Sweeney and Courtney Stockman all homered for the Stags (13-8), who earned the No. 2 seed to state.

Deer Park led 9-5 after a seven-run fifth, but the Eagles struck for six runs in the bottom of the inning.

Colville (19-2), the Northeast A League champion, earned the third and final state berth as Gracie Schauls pitched a three-hitter and hit a two-run homer during an 8-2 win over Chewelah (16-7).

Colville’s Hayden Hartman went 3 for 3 with two RBIs.

Lakeside advanced to the final with a 7-2 win over Chewelah. Saelor Dvorak had two hits and three RBIs and winning pitcher McKensie Brittos doubled twice.

Deer Park moved to the final by rallying for five runs in the seventh, sparked by winning pitcher Sweeney’s grand slam, for a 6-2 victory over Colville.

Stockman followed Sweeney’s slam with a solo homer. Sweeney struck out eight and pitched a five-hitter.

The wild comeback gave the Stags their eighth consecutive win. DP was swept by Colville during the league season.
