Area roundup: Huskies advance to softball Super Regional

Ali Aguilar has four hits, including her 21st homer, and drove in four runs and the 12th-ranked Washington Huskies beat No. 19 Minnesota 15-7 in six innings Sunday to win the Seattle NCAA Regional softball tournament and advance to a Super Regional.

The Huskies (39-13) will take on host Alabama in a best-of-three series next weekend.

Casey Stangel (Lake City) also drove in four runs and was one of four Huskies with two hits, both doubles.

Minnesota finished 43-14.

Baseball

Four Huskies combined to throw a two-hit shutout in a 4-0 win over Stanford (28-23, 12-15 Pac-12) in Seattle, Washington’s final regular-season home game.

Greg Minier, Spencer Jones (5-2), Alex Nesbitt and Ryan Schmitten teamed up for the shutout, not giving up a hit until the seventh.

The Huskies (31-19, 16-11) scored two runs in the first inning with Chris Baker hitting an RBI-double off the wall and then scoring on a ground out.

Baker and Jack Miggs had two hits each for Washington, which plays Washington State in a nonconference game on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. before closing the regular season with a series at first-place Utah starting Friday.

Women’s golf

Gonzaga’s Bianca Pagdanganan shot her second consecutive 81 and finished 22 over through three rounds at the NCAA championships at the Eugene Country Club. She was tied for 128th in the 132-player field and did not advance to Monday’s final round of stroke play.

Track and field

Maggie Jones will join Shelby Mills and Kellen Manley as Gonzaga representatives at the NCAA West Preliminaries in Lawrence, Kansas, getting into the 5,000-meter field after a medical scratch.
