Obituary: Thrawley, Judy A.
Age 74
THRAWLEY, Judy A.
Born in Spokane January 9, 1942 to Leslie E. and Francis R. Melchert.
Passed away suddenly May 4, 2016, leaving a massive void, both in the com- munity and the lives of her husband of over 57 years, and children, Danial (Kathren) Thrawley, Deborah (Ken) Boone, and Pamela Stevens; grandchildren, Jeff (Sharon) Treannie of Dutch Harbor, AK, Kristine (Andy) Wade of Greenacres, Jessika Whitecotton of Spokane Valley, Tony Stevens also of Dutch Harbor, AK, Kimberly Thrawley of Greenacres; and numerous great-grandchildren.
She is also survived by sister Sandra Griffith of Spokane and brother Robert Melchert of Evansville, IN; as well as many nieces.
She was a hard working, devoted, loving wife, who after leaving West Valley High School, followed her husband, Jim through his 21 year Navy career, and after returning to Spokane, continued working in the banking industry for a total of 20 years, then followed her love of animals as a Veterinary Technician for over 16 years, with the Ponti Veterinary Clinic.
A super woman of small stature, she was often known as the “Goat Lady”, for her dedication to the dairy goat industry, and to the community as superintendent of the dairy goat barn at the Interstate Fair, as well as judging goat shows in the Inland Northwest for well over 20 years.
She volunteered at Spokane Valley Partners Food Bank for over 15 years, and has been an active member of Scope East for over ten years, most of that time as treasurer.
Judy’s greatest legacy is to her family and home.
She was an active part of their lives from the beginning, sewing some of their clothes, guiding them through scouts, school projects, sports, church and supporting them as they developed their own families.
She was so proud of their many accomplishments.
At her request no formal service is scheduled, but a joyous celebration of life is being planned for late July or early August.
