Teens need budget lessons

Teens aren’t prepared for life after high school. I learned this when my Spanish teacher started talking about a friend’s monthly budget list. It all started stacking up so fast, and everyone in my class was not prepared for that.

I was shocked at how much adults spend for just themselves in a month’s time. It’s crazy how much simple, everyday things cost. Teenagers are completely oblivious to how much everything costs. We don’t think that that $20 shirt is going to matter that much, but when we’re out on our own, it’s going to matter a whole lot more.

I wish teachers and parents would talk about this part of becoming an adult earlier on, because then we’d be more aware of how much we’re making our parents pay for our stuff. I now am more aware of how much I spend and what everything costs.
