Three hospitalized in crash near Deer Park

From staff reports

A woman and two children were hospitalized following a three-car crash Sunday night on U.S. Highway 2 north of Spokane.

Sadele M. Haynes, 20, was driving north on the highway approaching East West Branch Road, the Washington State Patrol said in a news release. She hit another car waiting to turn left onto the road, which pushed that car to the southbound shoulder, the release said.

Haynes’ car rotated into the southbound lanes, where she struck a third car driven by 28-year-old Zachary H. Whipple, which had two children inside. Whipple’s children, a 7-year-old boy and 1-year-old boy, were injured and taken to the hospital. The 7-year-old was improperly restrained in a car seat, the release said.

Haynes was cited for negligent driving, the release said.

This story has been updated; an earlier version included the wrong identity of the driver of the third car.
