7 Nights Out: Big country week with Florida Georgia Line, Aaron Lewis and Sturgill Simpson

1. Florida Georgia Line

One of the most successful country acts of the 2010s, Florida Georgia Line returns to Spokane on the “Dig Your Roots Tour.” Special guests include Granger Smith and Chris Lane.

2. Whitworth Jazz Ensemble and Branford Marsalis

Internationally acclaimed Grammy-winning and Tony-nominated jazz and classical saxophonist and composer performs with the Whitworth Jazz Ensemble. Marsalis, the eldest of jazz master Ellis Marsalis’ six sons, has composed film and theater scores, performed with Sting and the Grateful Dead, and recorded in the classical genre. But it’s in jazz that he’s made his biggest mark, with more than two dozen albums as a leader to his credit, and two Grammy Awards for best jazz instrumentals.

3. Comedian Trevor Noah

Noah, now host of Comedy Central’s “The Daily Show,” hosted his own television show in South Africa before coming to the U.S. in 2012. His forthcoming book, “Born a Crime: Stories From a South African Childhood,” references the fact that he was born to an African mother and a European father during apartheid. His most recent special, “Lost in Translation,” came out in 2015 and touches on terrorism, police brutality, Ebola and family. His performance in Pullman is part of Dad’s Weekend at Washington State University.

4. Spokane Symphony: From China to America: Merging Cultures

Formerly known as Symphony with a Splash, the Intersect series is where music, art and culture connect. Enjoy a preconcert experience with the Spokane Chinese Dance Group and a display of local Chinese brush paintings. Chef Jeremy Hansen of Santé Restaurant will prepare a Chinese tasting menu. Experience the melodic notes of the Gu Zheng (Chinese harp) while Chinese calligraphers ink your name on a souvenir card. Purchase a three-course tasting with your ticket for $15. Doors open at 6 p.m., concert at 8 p.m.

5. Aaron Lewis

6. Sturgill Simpson

7. Comedian Tom Green

The actor-comedian-writer-provocateur comes to town for a three-night stand at the Spokane Comedy Club.
